Actress – Filmmaker

I met Bec Fordyce last summer, she is a friend of a friend, and owns her own production company, Morbid Little Girl Productions, and was crowd funding for an upcoming film she was and still is working on.

Bec Fordyce

Bec’s, also, an actor, writer, director. a makeup artist and model. Not to mention someone I’ve tried to write about since last Halloween. Yes, she has been that busy, until now.

Let’s ‘Meet: Bec Fordyce’

Background:

Born and raised in Australia, Bec says of her childhood, “I was bullied mercilessly, had a hard time fitting in and had some learning difficulties that weren’t discovered until much later.” Her only real joy, she adds, “came from my parents love of film and from performing.”

As for school, Bec says, “I hated school,” and that art, drama, recess and lunch were her favorite subjects; while citing her after school activities as “extra-curricular drama.” She won some awards in ‘athletic carnivals’ as well “but besides that,” adds the actor, ” I really was an unremarkable child.”

Bec may have been, in her eyes, an unremarkable child, but got her first ‘talent agent’ at age twelve. And says her parents “were supportive and encouraging without being pushy.” and summates, “I was very happy that they had the means to support my dreams, but they were far from the obnoxious stage parents you hear about.”

IMDb:

Her IMDb is quite impressive, so I decided to journey in that direction. ‘Looking through your IMDb,’ I began, ‘I see a host of credits you’re attributed to. Acting 54, Director 6, Producer 12 and they go on and on. Curious, is acting your true love or perhaps is that everything associated with the production of a film?’

Acting is my main focus” Bec begins, “but I feel it is important to have more skill sets than just acting. I have found it has empowered me to learn more aspects of production/filmmaking and it makes me a better actor.” Furthermore, she affixes, that is what brought her to the industry.

Locations:

I see you’ve worked in Sydney, Los Angeles, Shanghai and The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. What spot was your favorite to visit and why? I asked next.

Probably the most exotic destination I worked in was The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.  I had never heard of that island in the Caribbean when I first came to the States (2009) so to have the chance to host a travel series was an extraordinary opportunity,” Bec articulated.

I would go ANYWHERE in the world to work on an A24 project, or to work with Ari Aster, Nathan Fielder or Benny Safdie, was Bec’s reply, when I asked, where she would you love to shoot or work at the most. (A24 is an independent entertainment company based in Manhattan)

Morbid Little Girl Productions:

The production owner tells me she founded her company in 2020. Then added, “I was encouraged to become a filmmaker by my last boyfriend.  He was in a hardcore band, and the whole punk rock scene’s ethos is about doing it yourself and getting your art out there.

Bec, continued later, “By producing my own work I have really helped level up in my career and it’s really taught me how to be a better actor. It’s opened a lot more doors for me this way. Why be at the mercy of the industry when you can take the reins yourself?”

Quick Responses:

I felt a need to stray out of the ordinary with Bec, so I decided to have a bit of fun with her. We both seem to like horror and the Simpson’s.

‘I’ll ask a name; you reply in one word and give an explanation why you chose it…three words’, I asked.

  1. Bong-ripping Nun  –high – Making “Killer Shoes” combined my two loves. Horror movies and cannabis.
  2. Santa’s Little Helper – dog – Because it’s the dog’s name off “The Simpsons”
  3. Bec Fordyce – me. Because that’s my name.

Staying in the moment, I give you Bec (above left, on the right) with the ‘Scared for Your Liife’s’ 2023 Blue Skeleton Award for ‘Killer Shoes’ a production of Morbid Little Girl Productions, in Long Island., NY. ‘The Skeleton Crew Award‘ is given to the ‘Best Low Budget Film’ and she, also, stared in the film.

I was thrilled to have a prerelease viewing of the Independant film and although it’s not out yet, I give it two thumbs up.

About Me:

What is it about me and my social media presence that you like? “We shared a mutual contact,” Bec states, “and I think that you have a very honest account of your personal life.

Plus, “You’d been asking me for a minute, so I thought it sounded like fun,” Bec concluded.

Writers Note:

I must admit, Bec’s story was more challenging than most. She’s a driven individual who focuses on the now rather than resting on her laurels.

Not knowing this going in, I had to change directions a few times from the light heartedness of these ‘Meet Me’s’ and focus more on the individual. Now that I’m finished ‘penning’ this, so to speak, I’ve realized, this too, has become a part of my healing process.

A reminder to our own selves that staying in one place isn’t moving forward. And to better ourselves, we must do that. We must constantly be moving.

To Bec, I thank you for not only that reminder but for your candidness, sincerity and time as well. And a ‘minute’ which helped me grow.
