I was honored to have been able to attend an early screening of Wicked: For Good before today’s theater release. Here’s my take on what I believe is the movie of the year. But in a different light. Hope you learn the lessons I caught.

Wicked: For Good has little to do with forgiveness between two friends. But everything to do with friendships and how we’re let down because of them.
In the sequel to last year’s hit movie ‘Wicked‘ Glinda, again, was the biggest loser.
For the love of animals, Elphaba was ostracized to a life of loneliness into the forest. Only to have hatred follow her as the Cowardly Lion, who she had freed as a cub, didn’t appreciate his freedom enough to become an adult and missed his oppressors.
Then there’s Munchkin boy, Boq. He played on Elphaba’s sisters’ feelings of love but only when he couldn’t have Glinda for his own. Nessarose, the sister, tried casting a spell on him to stay, only to turn her love into a Tin Man without a heart..
Nessarose, dubbed now as The Wicked Witch of the East, is later flattened by a farmhouse during a storm that was cast by Madame Morrible. Morrible created the storm after listening to a crazy idea to draw Elphaba out by Glinda.
There’s, also, Fiyero who’s caught up in a love triangle between Glinda and Elphaba only to become a brainless Scarecrow. Glinda wants him for her own. But the love between he and Elphaba has never weaned from meeting in Wicked.
From knowing that Oz is her father and the friend that she cherishes most had given away her last meaningful possession, the very shoes on her sisters crushed body, she still loved. In fact, she loved enough to give her very life to protect that friend.
Lesson to Be Learned from ‘Wicked: For Good’
If you’re riding around in a ‘Floating Bubble‘ thinking you’re almighty like Oz himself, remember the people you’ve hurt along the way. Then maybe that ‘change for good‘ can be turned into ‘change for the better.’
Don’t be a Glinda. Rather be an Elphaba. In doing so, you’ll gain courage, a heart that beats, and wisdom to respect.
Come back and tell me your thoughts after viewing the movie. It’s definitely a must see!
