An Early Screening
Was thrilled at the opportunity to attend an early screening of F1-The Movie this afternoon. The movie, stars Brad Pitt (Sonny Hayes), Javier Bardem (Ruben Cervantes) and Kerry Condon (Kate McKenna).

Sonny, who I wouldn’t refer to as washed up nor a retired race car driver. He’s had his setbacks but still does drive at various tracks across the country. His life just headed in a different direction after a serious accident that nearly killed him years before on the racetrack.
True friendship never dies, as he comes to the aid of Ruben who finds himself in financial need with his Formula One race team (APXGP).
Ruben proposes that Sonny return to the race circuit and drive the remainder of the season as a number two behind young, upstart Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris). (I don’t know the ins and outs of IMDb statuses, but Idris did play a leading role and is a very good actor)

As you can imagine, an ‘old man’ racer that does it because ‘its racing’ and a ‘cocky young man’s’ attitudes do cross paths. Especially after Joshua’s mother said he, Sonny. is ‘handsome’ to her son.

And of course, I can’t forget Kate. She’s the team’s technical engineer facing her own problems of being a female in that position. Along the way her and Sonny fall for one another, and you know what happens. But there’s no real nudity.

There’s a lot of racing and the film was shot at several locations including Silverston, home of the British Grand Prix.
Along with the racing there were plenty of accidents. Not to forget the knowledge and strategy an ‘old time’ racer like Sonny brings to the table. He did seem to cause a few of those accidents but all for the youngster and team’s advantage.
The movie officially opens in theaters on Friday, June 27.
Runtime is about 2 hours and 20 minutes and if you’re a fan of any type of racing it’s a must see. I give it two thumbs up. And thanks to MJR Theatres for opening the doors a day early for me and the others.
