Meet Me Series
We’d been friends a few months when I decided to give one of her books a read. Actually, a listening to on Amazon Audiobooks, Pandora Syndrome: Stories of Ithria. It’s a story of a young woman shot at a club who wakes as a vampire afterwards. The rest I’ll leave for you to discover on your own.
I’m good with vampires and immediately decided to ask the author for an interview for my ‘Meet Me‘ segment. Excitedly, after a bit of research, I discovered she was much more than an author as her IMDb credits confirmed.

A few hours after sending the request, she replied, “Sure. You have my email. Send the doc on over.” And now her story begins…
Meet: April Wahlin
Early Years
Where are you originally from?
“I am from San Diego and grew up as a nerd, spending my time at Comic-Con and playing D&D in my friend’s garage,” began April. And continued, “As a kid, I loved X-Men and Batman, but as a teen, I became more interested in Star Wars and theatre. I wasn’t the best at school, but I excelled in the arts, especially stagecraft and theatre.”
College?
I went to Mesa College in San Diego and graduated with a degree in theatre.

Family Life
Tell us a bit about your family life?
I am currently in San Diego with my husband, taking care of my mother and my four-year-old.

How supportive is your family?
My family is supportive, even if they don’t always understand my life’s journey.
Favorite TV shows and preferred music genre?
I have several favorite TV shows, a couple of which are The Witcher, Drag Race, and practically everything Marvel—the sillier, the better. I like ’80s and ’90s music.
If a movie were made of your life, who would you want to play you as a child and then as an adult and why?
If a movie were made about my life, Zendaya’s personality wouldn’t be far off from how I was as a kid. As an adult, I’d say Aubrey Plaza—who I actually got to stand in for on The To-Do List—because I feel like I can be a bit of a wild card.
Acting
What or who led you to and how long have you been acting?
I decided to go into acting because I wasn’t really sure what else to do with my life, and I loved movies. I’ve been a SAG actor since 2004.

Do you prefer actor or actress?
I actually prefer the term ‘actor,’ though I’m not sure why.
Favorite role you’ve played?
I had the most fun winning Search for the Next Elvira.

What’s the biggest role you’ve landed?
Not sure what my biggest role would be—I did a few things when I was working on Young Sheldon. My most fun role was probably Elvira because I’ve always loved her and had been dressing up as her since I was 13. I think she’s hilarious and a wonderful woman. Doing some voices for Robot Chicken was pretty funny, considering we’d all laugh at the lines after every take.
Below is segment three from the reality competition, ‘Search for the Next Elvira’ in which April was part of and the eventual winner of the show.
“When’s the last time they saw the light of day?”
Author
When did you start writing?
I started writing when I was working on set. There’s a lot of ‘hurry up and wait’ between setups, and I got bored, so I started bringing my computer and writing.
What or who inspired you to begin a career in writing?
I’m not sure who inspired me as a writer, but I’d probably say my high school English teacher. She always enjoyed my stories despite my dyslexic writing.
How many books do you have published now?
I have about nine books published on Amazon at the moment.

Can you give us a brief synopsis of your books?
My books all take place in the world of Ithiria, a fantasy world that encompasses many different genres, including fairy tale, steampunk, and contemporary, depending on which land you visit.
Who is your favorite author and why?
I’d say my favorite authors are the Brothers Grimm since I love everything fairy tale.
What do you want from life and or the universe?
To be a successful author, have a happy and healthy family, and be able to help others along their creative journeys.
About Me
What is it about me and my platform on social media that you like? And what are your reasons for following me?
I find that you are very active and always supportive of others, consistently offering encouragement. Your willingness to uplift those around you truly makes a difference and creates a positive impact.

Writer Note
April took me by surprise as I really wasn’t aware of her winning a Reality Show by portraying Elvira in 2007. Hell, that makes her a legend in the industry. I was originally interested in the woman that writes books. Then it turned into a mission interviewing the same woman that was part of Godzilla 2014. But the snowball effect kicked in and her accolades got bigger and bigger.
But what impresses me most about April is that she’s humble and kind. She takes life for what it offers and is willing to be real with others. No pretenses of being larger than life, she’s just herself. For that and her time I’d like to tell her thank you and wish her much continued success.
And as always, thanks again to all my readers that continue to follow along and make it all possible.
