What I need to do differently is, ‘learn to be myself.’ Too long I’ve been my past, or the person I thought someone wanted. Worst of all, I’ve been the one I thought I needed to be to save everyone but myself.

While on a recent date with someone I’ve known for nearly twenty years, I heard her talk of herself. I knew some of her story she shared but not all. I realized mine must be similar and she only knew what was visible.

Then I opened up. Not all, yet enough for her to learn more than what’s on the surface. And you know what, it felt good. A step in the right direction in hopes of turning this friendship into something more. So, stop hiding yourself, become yourself. There’s no other way to be.
