Daily Prompt’s QOTD
Until 2008 I had always voted for Republicans but Barack Obama’s first run for POTUS changed that. He offered change and I needed change.
A few years earlier I had been diagnosed with congestive heart failure. The disease was bad enough. But I, also, required an Implantable Cardiac Device, ICD, (defibrillator implant). I’ve had one ever since and am now on my fourth device.

Getting approved for benefits, mainly health insurance, took thirty-seven months. I was damned if I were going to vote for a party that had no feelings for the disabled. And had created so many hoops to jump through just to get care.
Thus, I switched party affiliations. And have been voting Democrat ever since, because there is empathy and change within their ranks.
Through the years I have been shocked by the devices that have been implanted. And my life has been saved by them. When discharging, it feels like being hit hard to the back but without the pain afterwards. Then a bit of drowsiness settles in.
Being young with a serious heart ailment dictated my needs in a different direction. One of self-preservation. In reality, it’s a shame we wait till something affects us individually to change. I have and have never looked back.
