Musician, Dancer and Author

Exclamation marks were everywhere on Ines’s response to being highlighted in this blog. For a nano-second I wondered why. Then I thought of the few times I had been in a similar position; I was excited as well. She’s no different in that aspect yet comes with far more grace and exploits her talents far better than I imagined from the onset. Here’s her story. – Rick

I’ve never asked what someone is thinking during an interview. I ask questions that offer direct answers with quick responses. If I were to change now, I’d surely ask Ines what was going through her mind when the photographer snapped this shot. Bet it was her next move, like a chess player anticipating her opponent’s counter, she has a plan. I asked her in the end.

Molly Haze:

Ines was born and raised in France and resides in Paris. She’s a musician. Sings and plays the guitar and goes by the stage name ‘Molly Haze.’  Inés Bigot (@molly_haze.singer) • Instagram

Where did ‘Molly Haze’ originate from. Sounds ‘Titanic-ish,’ my over thinking mind thought, before I had even asked Ines the question. I suppose historically I wasn’t far off track in my assumption as ‘Molly Haze’ replied, ” Molly Haze was influenced by the names of two literary figures I love: Molly Bloom in James Joyce’s novel Ulysses and Dolores Haze in Nabokov’s novel Lolita! It also refers to my literary background.”

Background:

I had come across a photo of her doing ballet and I had to inquire about it. There’s always much more behind the person than what you originally see. And Ines is no different.

On the surface there was a musician, underneath was another type of performer. A dancer and stage performer.

When I asked about her ballet days, she was quick to reply, And yes, with more exclamation marks before saying, ” I’ve practiced ballet for ten years when I was a young girl. I’ve always loved the performing arts in general. So yes, I have a background in classical dance too.”

When I inquired further, she added, ” They were part of a performance at the end of the year. It was part of The Nutcracker ❤️ Enter Inés Bigot 📷 A show organized by the ballet School i was in.”

Not wanting to be humbled by missing another possible story within the story, I asked Ines, near jokingly in my own mind, one last follow-up before I hit on the music and singing career which originally brought me to her.
“Any other cool surprises I can add,” I asked? “Haha, i don’t think there are more,” she replied, before continuing, “except that I’ve written a PhD on « Dance and Dissidence in the Plays of W. B Yeats and Wole Soyinka.”  You can see her publication here: The ╜endless Dance of Contrapuntal Energy╚: Conflict and Disunity in Fighting the Waves (clemson.edu)

“I’m French so there might not be an equivalent (In US Education) but I’ve studied literature at the Sorbonne and I have a doctorate in English Literature.” she concluded. Sorbonne Universite is located in Paris.

There was more, and I wasn’t surprised at her gracefulness and humbleness she had shown by not revealing it until asked.  She answers questions directly, as asked. No adlibbing.

Such etiquette in this day of boasting is a rare testament in oneself and their upbringing. She’s a unique individual and I’m thrilled as ever to blog about her.

Singing and Music:

“I’ve been playing the guitar for three years now, but I’ve really started daily work on the instrument a year ago by taking lessons with a professional guitarist,” Molly Maze begins in her pseudonym. “My guitar lessons are pretty cool and adapted to my type of songwriting. (I should also note that Ines does her own song writing as well) My teacher gives me clues and techniques that can help me develop this songwriting. Playing the guitar came pretty easy to me. I like the instrument.”

“It’s a natural thing to me,” the singing, she says, “and I’ve never taken singing lessons in my life. Both my parents are music lovers, especially my father who is a great connoisseur.”

“I’ve recorded two singles. The first one is called « I Never Wanted » and there is a video clip too that has been produced by the company Your Ink,” she opined and added, “My second single will be released this winter with a clip. And I’ll be recording my first EP in January,”

“I think my parents are proud of what I’ve accomplished lately,” Ines concludes, when asked what her parents would say of her career and success as well as her personal goals, “I’m hoping to make them prouder and prouder! My biggest goal in music would be to be able to build an authentic relation with my audience and live off my music.”

…And the answer to her thoughts that day the photographer snapped the wonderful photo at the begging of this blog were, “I was looking at a flower in my garden in Corsica! A moment of Happy communion with nature.”

With that, I leave you with her favorite song by Ben E, King…

…and my own exclamation point after a fantastic time interviewing an up-and-coming STAR!
