An Apple A Day
May 28, 2023
The old adage, ‘An Apple A Day Keeps the Doctor Away,’ just popped to mind as I returned home from a follow-up with my Cardiologist Dr S. Never gave it much thought growing up and it really has no place in my vocabulary now. But I’ll stick with it as a reminder of something I used once. (What’s with me and old adages)?
The day started off fantastic, and once more I was indifferent to all my medical concerns. Aware, yes. Was it bothering me, no.
Started the day by tuning in to my friend Kristyn (notice with a ‘y’) Burtt on the morning podcast of the Tom Barnard Show (7-10 AM CT) doing her ‘Hollywood Reporter’ segment. She’s always informative, yet lighthearted. A real joy.
During today’s fun side of the show, she mentioned that her uncle had told her she should run for political office. I gathered by her response; the reply was a clear cut and resounding ‘NO.’
Then a brief mention of ‘Jimmie Walker’ aka ‘James Evans Junior, JJ’ from the old television classic ‘Good Times.’ He was at a gathering of a ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ cast celebration that Kristyn covered yesterday. She was asked by Barnard, if Walker had given her a ‘THAT’S DYNOMITE’ shoutout. Again a no.

Somewhere between the lines, she posed a question to the host “What was the first movie mailed out by Netflix?” Turned out, it was Beetlejuice. But I had neglected to include it in a congratulatory tweet to her after her segment ended. Later, after seeing my aimed tweet, she wrote back ” And don’t say Beetlejuice 3x!!”
A near decade of friendship and a forgotten at the moment movie line, had me laughing oh so hard, while trying to figure a way to incorporate it into this blog. And now it’s in here. #BurttRocks Type in her name at your favorite social media site and you’ll find her. Remember ‘y.’
Back to the ‘APPLES.‘ And I promise not to let ‘William Tell.‘ I will.
After checking my blood pressure, pause, heart rate and listening with a stethoscope, to any and everywhere he could find a spot to place it. He looked at me and said (drum roll) ‘Your heart sounds good! See you in three months.’

Being on and off blood thinners these past seven or so weeks, he suggested that the prostate biopsy be rescheduled for a couple months down the road.
“Thanks Doc. You just made my Boston trip possible again this year,” I replied.
Thus, the ninety apples reference. One for each day until I see Dr S again. And using Paul Harvey’s famous ending, once more to a blog post, “That’s the rest of the story.”
Now the day ends equally fantastic as it began.
