I Believe I Can Fly
May 28, 2023
Today I had my first doctor’s visit since last week’s medical setback that required a cardioversion.
“Hi Rick,” Dr R (my primary) says while she’s entering the room. “Plans for Boston this year still on?”
“Yes, in August” I reply, “got to keep me healthy Doc.”

After discussing March and early April’s medical issues, she goes about her doctoring routine. Checking here, checking there, checking everywhere. Then looks me in the eyes. Hearts in rhythm. Blood pressure was 127 / 70 something (didn’t catch the low number). Lungs are clear. Then she asks if I need and refills on my prescriptions. And thinks it’s best to keep me on the potassium supplements. I agree.
She adds, she’ll leave the possible rescheduling of the prostate biopsy up to Dr S, my cardiologist. The hospital doctor, before my discharge last week, said with me being on and off blood thinners the past month plus, it’d be best to wait six weeks while continuing them. Procedure is currently scheduled for later this month.
Before she leaves the room, Boston comes back into the conversation. Her daughter moved there last year about the same time as my first trip. It’s turned into an ongoing piece of interest between us since.
She smiles as I tell her I’m bringing her back a Red Sox hat. “I’ll see you when you get back in August,” were her parting words.
Not only do “I Believe I Can Fly” now “I Believe I’ve Got the Best Two Docs On the Planet” in my corner! Hats off to them both!!!
