This marks our return there for the first time in decades. I found myself thinking about space again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not the mission details or the trajectory, but the idea of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The distance. The silence. The way something can feel so far away yet still hold meaning. And for obvious reasons, it brought me back to her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lAwYodrBr2Q?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=es-MX&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Our Space Connection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She loved space, not casually, but in a way that felt intentional. Like looking up wasn\u2019t just something you do. It is something you try to understand. And it says something about how you see the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her last name in English translates in Sanskrit to <em>Sky Walker<\/em>. That always stayed with me. Mainly because there\u2019s also a <em>Star Wars<\/em> character named <em>Ric Oli\u00e9<\/em>\u2014a pilot. We both love the franchise. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was one of those little things you don\u2019t plan for, but you notice along the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sky Walker and a pilot. And somewhere in all of that, there was something else we shared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Sharing The Same Solar System<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We had participated in previous space flights. Her aboard the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stardust_(spacecraft)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Stardust Spacecraft<\/a><\/strong> that orbited the Sun. While I am aboard the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Perseverance_(rover)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Perseverance<\/a><\/strong> rover running around on Mars. Our names in each vehicle&#8217;s microchips. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Years before <strong>Artemis<\/strong>&#8216; launch, NASA gave us the opportunity to send our names into space again. These names would be in the ships microchips as well. And now they&#8217;re being carried farther than we\u2019d ever go ourselves. I told her I had submitted mine. She added hers too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now we&#8217;re up there together. Her name. My name hurdling towards the Moon. But it was something we chose. In that moment, we both agreed to the same idea. We didn&#8217;t really know what it would come to mean to this writer. But it wouldn&#8217;t have changed a thing if I had known we&#8217;d be apart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Our Space Bar and Grill<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We talked about space from time to time and somewhere in those conversations, an idea came up. Just as a joke of course, we would be the first to open a space bar and grill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not here. Not anywhere ordinary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Up there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And our first date wasn\u2019t going to be dinner somewhere local. It was going to be in space itself. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A table set in orbit with no noise. nor past and no gravity pulling us back. Just two people sitting across from each other, finally in a place where nothing else would ever match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But like a lot of things between us\u2026 it didn\u2019t stay that way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We never took that flight, for obvious reasons as life keeps us grounded. Sometimes it\u2019s the ones that didn\u2019t. The ones that existed somewhere between a conversation, a possibility and a dream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Artemis II is now somewhere between the Earth and the Moon.. Our names are aboard it. I keep thinking about the world\u2019s relentless pursuit of space. We are pushing further into a realm that has always felt just out of reach. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And for a brief time, we had something like that too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Something distant, but real. Something that felt like it belonged together\u2014somewhere quieter, simpler, untouched by everything that eventually pulled it apart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe some things were never meant to happen here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But that doesn\u2019t make them any less real for the time they existed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe we did make it there. Just not in the way we imagined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And if there\u2019s a version of life where that flight happened, I\u2019d like to think we made it there.
