Detroit Restaurants<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

After spending the day at Michigan Central Station<\/strong> taking in the history, the restoration, and everything that came with it last Wednesday, we made our way just across Michigan Avenue to Slows Bar BQ<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was with my friend Jan and our local senior citizens group, and after a day like that, it felt like the perfect place to sit down, relax, and just enjoy the moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And honestly\u2026 it turned into something more than just a meal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Burger<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I ordered the Slows Special Purpose<\/strong>\u2014a 1\/2 pound dry-aged burger cooked to order, topped with spicy onions, smoked gouda, applewood bacon, and sweet BBQ sauce. I added a small order of waffle fries on the side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now let me explain something, because it matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dry-aged beef<\/strong> is beef that\u2019s been stored in a controlled environment for several weeks. During that time, moisture is reduced and natural enzymes break down the muscle tissue, making the meat more tender and concentrating the flavor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In layman terms, it tastes richer, deeper, and more intense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And this burger?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was the best I\u2019ve ever had.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not just in the moment, but one of those meals you think about later<\/em>. I found myself still tasting it hours after we left, replaying it in my head like a good memory I didn’t want to lose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The waffle fries were crisp, seasoned just right, and the perfect complement\u2014but the burger was the star.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What stood out just as much, though, was the service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our waitress was superb<\/strong>. Attentive, friendly, and patient with our group. When you\u2019re with a large group, especially one like ours, that kind of service matters. She made it feel fun and easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Setting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Slows Bar BQ sits right across from Michigan Central Station, and there was something fitting about that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A place filled with history, followed by a place full of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inside, the atmosphere had that warm Detroit feel, with wood, brick, energy, and conversation all around. You could tell this wasn\u2019t just a stop. It\u2019s a place people come back to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And our group?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They loved it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You could see it in the smiles, hear it in the conversations. It wasn\u2019t just about the food\u2014it was about being together, sharing something good after a meaningful day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Final Thought<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes it\u2019s not just where you go, it\u2019s what the day becomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From walking through a restored piece of Detroit\u2019s past to sitting down across the street and enjoying one of the best meals I\u2019ve had in a long time, it all connected in a way I didn\u2019t expect. And those are the moments that stay with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Location<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There are two Slows Bar BQ restaurants in Detroit. The one we patroned is located at 2138 Michigan Ave, Detroit, (313) 962-9828. The other is located at 4107 Cass Ave, Detroit, (313) 309-7560. It should be noted Jan did arrange reservations for our group of twenty-five in advance. So, I’d call before just in case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
